Tips to improve communication skill for interviews
Communication is the most important part of our lives. Our ability to speak out properly represents our personality. And communication skill plays a crucial part in cracking interviews. Communication skills are one of the main qualities interviewers look out for in a candidate. Lack of good communication leads to lack of understanding. And lack of understanding can be a major reason for under performance in your interview.
So, if you’re preparing for an interview, here are some important tips which you can follow for a good interview experience:
Confidence
Confidence is the key to representing yourself. Act with enough confidence to convince your interviewer that you are the right fit for the job. Remember there’s a fine line between confidence and arrogance , so never over do it. A good vocabulary can help but never choose very complex words.
Sound professional in front of the interviewer.
Expression and Eye contact
When anxiety or nervousness takes over during an interview, it starts showing on your face expressions. So try to control your thoughts and keep a calm expression on your face. Also, maintaining good eye contact shows your confidence. So maintain good eye contact and a good expression on your face.
Listen properly
Communication not only involves you speaking but you are expected to listen properly. Listening is twice as hard as talking as every good conversation starts with good listening so If you are a good listener who listens to the speaker, then you can be a good speaker too.So Before answering any of the questions, listen properly to the interviewer, let them finish. Then take a pause of a few seconds and then start with your answer.
Be specific to the topic(To the point)
Don’t keep on talking if asked any question, be specific to the topic. Back up your answers with facts and examples related to questions, not opinions. Always focus on the key points mentioned in the job expectations. Always keep it fairly short and never give very long answers as it will lose its effectiveness. If you are stretching any answer, make sure you are proving your point in the end with a conclusion. Always give a practical example of the topics.
Never bluff the interviewer on any topic.
Body Language
Body language is the first thing the person sitting in front of you will notice. So prepare yourself and maintain a proper body language like:
