Should we pay for internships??
Internships are the most important part of college life nowadays as it gives you a prior sense of how work is done in the companies where you are going to work after placements or how the environment is inside a company. You should always grab internships during your second year or third year of your college and there are multiple reasons for it:
-
Best companies like Microsoft,Google offer you PPO(Pre Placement Offer) after your internships if you have given your best in the internship period of time.PPO means you will get a permanent job offer.
-
Also, the competition is less than placements and the chances are that you can grab a good package job from there as well.
-
Even if you don’t have the PPO,still you will have hands-on experience in your field which will keep you at the top in the list of recruiters during placements.
-
You will be learning new skills which can be added to your resume and if the internship is done from a very good company then it is cherry on the top.
But, the question arises, should we do paid internships or unpaid internships or should we pay for our internship??
Tip: Never go for a low skill internship or an internship which is irrelevant to your long term Goals.
Always choose internships which teach you skills which you can use in future jobs.
What is Paid and Unpaid Internship??
Paid Internship: Paid internships are those where companies pay you for your skills or the work you are doing for them. These can be the best internships to grab.
Unpaid Internship: Unpaid internships are where you don’t get paid for the work. You can choose these internships if the company is good enough or a startup offering you a good skill to work on.As long as these skills on which you will be working are relevant to your long term goals you can grab that internship. For example if you are an engineering student getting an internship for data entry or content writing, you should not take it as they will not help you in future.
Should we pay for our internship???
The answer is a big NO! Never ever pay your company for your internship. Good companies which are generating a good amount of revenue will always pay for your skills. And taking money to give you an internship is unethical.
Moral of the story is, you should always grab internships which will teach you a very good skill which will help you in your future jobs. Better to be paid , if not, still you can opt for these. If you mention one or two internships in your resume from a good company, it will help you in many ways. But never choose to pay the company to let you work.
